Mychelle Blake, MSW, CDBC is the Executive Director/CEO of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers. She is a Certified Dog Behavior Consultant through the IAABC and holds a Masters of Social Welfare Administration from the University of California, Los Angeles.
Mychelle has worked as both a staff member and a volunteer at shelters and rescues in Los Angeles, CA, Lancaster, PA and Las Vegas, NV. She is currently a Community Training Partner with Best Friends Animal Society and provides training assistance to local adopters and rescuers in Las Vegas. She also is a member of the Best Friends Las Vegas Pit Crew, providing education for the public on pit bull behavior and training and breed specific legislation. Mychelle is also the former Chair of the APDT Legislative Affairs Committee.
Katenna Jones is the Education Coordinator for the Association of Pet Dog Trainers and an Instructor for American Humane Association’s Animal Emergency Services. She also works with local shelters and rescues providing behavior assessments and training advice, primarily with bully breeds. She earned her Master’s Degree from Brown University in Experimental Psychology, where she studied animal behavior, learning, and cognition.
She has nearly a decade of experience in all aspects of animal sheltering, from Kennel Attendant to Manager to Cruelty Investigator and Chairperson of State Vicious Dog Hearings for four years. Katenna is an Associate Certified Applied Animal Behaviorist, a Certified Animal Behavior Consultant, and Certified Pet Dog Trainer – Knowledge Assessed.
Katenna lives in Cumberland, Rhode Island with her husband, 2 adopted cats, and adopted pit bull.

Ledy Van Kavage, Esq.

Ledy VanKavage is National Manager of the Pit Bull Terrier Initiative for Best Friends Animal Society and their Senior Legislative Attorney. She began her legal career as a judicial law clerk for the Illinois Appellate Court and the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Illinois. After working at a St. Louis environmental law firm, Green, Hennings, and Henry, she served as an attorney advisor for the U.S. Health and Human Services. Ledy joined the ASPCA in 1999 as a Midwest Government Affairs and Public Policy Associate. Ledy has worked extensively in the humane movement. In 1985 she organized the Madison County Coalition Against Pound Seizure, successfully stopping the sale of animals for research from her county animal control facility. She then founded the Madison County Humane Society and served as its president for eight years. In 1992 she co-founded the Illinois Federation of Humane Societies and served on its board for ten years. She was also a cofounder of Operation SPOT (Stop Pet Overpopulation Today) in the St. Louis Metropolitan area and served as a board member for eight years. She worked for the ASPCA for nine years as Sr. Director of Legislation and Legal Training. During that time she spearheaded the passage of over 20 humane bills making Illinois the best state for animal laws in the nation. She is the Chair-Elect for the American Bar Association’s Tort Trial & Insurance Practice Section Animal Law Committee and serves on the ISBA’s animal law subcommittee. Ledy also serves on the Animal Farm Foundation Board. She has been interviewed on the subject of dangerous dog by the New York Times, MSNBC, NPR’s Justice Talking, the Chicago Tribune, and the St. Louis Post Dispatch. She is a co-author of a chapter on dangerous dog ordinances in the American Bar Association Book, Dangerous Dog Laws published in 2009.
Ledy graduated from Eastern Illinois University with a BS in Zoology and attended graduate school at Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville in environmental studies before going to St. Louis University and earning her JD. Ledy is from the heartland; she currently resides in Collinsville, Illinois with her husband Cliff who is the Executive Director of Cinema St. Louis. Ledy and her husband have adopted three brindle pit bulls, Che, Bella, and Karma and also oversee a feral cat colony in the neighborhood.

With over 35 years of professional experience, Gail's background in dogs covers virtually all aspects of the field. A pioneer in many aspects of dog training, education and behavior, Gail developed the first University program for dog trainers and instructors in the world, a two-year certificate course, which she taught at the University of New Hampshire. Through her All Dogs Academy, she has continuously provided education and training for instructors and trainers for nearly 30 years.
Bucking the 6-month old “diktat” for starting dogs in training, Gail pioneered puppy classes for puppies as young as eight weeks in 1976. In 1993 she founded and built All Dogs Gym, pioneering the field of multi-dog interactive daycare. All Dogs Gym is the largest dog activity center in the Northeast and one of the largest all-clicker-training programs in the country.
Gail’s commitment to learning and sharing knowledge benefits dog owners, professionals and the dogs themselves. Her latest book, The Thinking Dog—Crossover to Clicker Training is the quintessential manual for dog trainers interested in clicker training. She is also the author of two award-winning books, training manuals, countless articles in major dog publications, and a weekly newspaper column. Trish McMillan Loehr, MSc, CPDT-KA

Trish McMillan Loehr holds a Master of Science degree in animal behavior from the University of Exeter in England. She is a Certified Pet Dog Trainer, is SAFER certified, and is currently vice chair of the Board of Directors of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers.
Trish began working with shelter animals in 1996 and has trained dogs professionally since 1999. She also has more than a decade of experience working with horses, and has also trained rats, cats and pigeons. Trish spent more than three years as the Director of Animal Behavior at the ASPCA’s 92nd St shelter, then worked as an animal behaviorist for the Animal Behavior Center in Urbana, IL in 2009. Since then, Trish has been deployed to work with animals from hoarding and cruelty cases, has helped assess hundreds of pit bulls from dogfighting raids, has helped with shelters in crisis and has written articles for the Virtual Pet Behaviorist. Trish is now the Director of Applied Research and Behavior for the ASPCA’s Shelter Research and Development team.
Trish and her husband Barry share their lives with three wonderful dogs: Kenya, a mixed breed “foster success;” Aleli, a brilliant Sato from a Puerto Rican beach; and Cosmo, a talkative Australian Shepherd who tries really hard to be a good dog.

Since founding Sweet Binks Rabbit Rescue, Inc. in 1991, Pamela Hood has placed nearly 1500 rabbits into safe and loving homes with over 50 rabbits in her care at any time. Pam has served as President of Sweet Binks for 10 years and is a Licensed Educator who is committed to educating the public about humane and appropriate rabbit care. Pam works closely with local animal shelters to take-in homeless rabbits and assists regularly in rabbit-related cruelty investigations. Sweet Binks provides safe, long-term refuge for homeless rabbits and works hard to find appropriate bond mates and place rabbits into loving homes. Pam serves as Chapter Manager of the Rhode Island Chapter of the House Rabbit Society and works hard on her farm in Foster Rhode Island that she shares with a menagerie of pet farm animals and her partner Matt.

Jamie is an aviculturist and advocate for parrots in the home. Her unique experience allows her an opportunity to know birds in all stages of their lives. Helping people to understand and work with their bird's natural behaviors has enabled many parrots to stay in their homes long term.

Things to Teach Your Children to be Safe around Dogs

Joan Orr M.Sc. is a scientist and internationally recognized clicker trainer. She is a member of the Karen Pryor Clickertraining Clicker Expo Faculty and a member of the Advisory Committee to the Karen Pryor Academy for Animal Training and Behavior. She has trained dogs using positive reinforcement methods for more than 10 years and more recently has instructed others in clicker training techniques. She has worked with animal behaviorists and has used clicker training methods with pet dogs and puppies, problem dogs, shelter dogs, and service dogs. She is a pioneer in the field of clicker training rabbits and co-author of a book on the subject. Joan is a co-founder and president of Doggone Safe, a non-profit organization dedicated to dog bite prevention through education whose influence extends across North America and around the world. In association with animal behaviour specialist Teresa Lewin, Joan has co-created the dog bite prevention board game Doggone Crazy!, the “Be a Tree” bite prevention education program for elementary school children and the Clicker Puppy training DVD. Joan has published articles in numerous magazines on dog bite prevention, the promotion of positive training methods and the importance of understanding dog body language and has received many awards for her work.
Teresa Lewin is an animal behavior consultant who focuses on the use of positive reinforcement in training and behavior modification. Teresa is co-inventor of the bite prevention board game Doggone Crazy!, the Be a Tree program for child safety around dogs and the Clicker Puppy Training DVD. She is a co-founder of the non-profit organization Doggone Safe. Teresa has won many awards for her work.

Julie Robitaille and Emma Parsons are the Co-Founders of the TACT Methodology. Both Emma and Julie are Canine Behavior Consultants who specialize in canine reactivity and aggression. Teoti Anderson, Certified Pet Dog Trainer and owner of Pawsitive Results, LLC in Lexington, South Carolina, has been a professional dog trainer for more than 15 years. Teoti is the author of Your Outta Control Puppy, Super Simple Guide to Housetraining, Puppy Care and Training, and Quick and Easy Crate Training, winner of the Dog Writers Association of America’s Maxwell Medallion. She is also a columnist for Modern Dog magazine.
Teoti served on the Board of Directors of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT) for six years, serving as President from 2004-2006. She's been quoted in Dog Fancy magazine, The New York Times, Whole Dog Journal, Puppies USA, and other national publications. She is a frequent public speaker at conferences, and civic and humane organization meetings across the country, sharing information on training, dog behavior, bite prevention, and volunteering with animals in healthcare facilities. Teoti is also a founding member of the Carolinas Trainers Forum, a networking group of dog trainers in North and South Carolina.
A licensed Delta Society Pet Partner for more than a decade, Teoti visits healthcare patients with Logan, her Labrador Retriever, and Finian, her Papillon. The Delta Society trains and registers human-animal teams across the nation in animal assisted therapy (AAT) and animal assisted activities (AAA), teaching them to safely and effectively work with patients in a variety of facilities. In 2000, she earned the national Delta Society Beyond Limits Animal Therapy Team of the Year award with her team of Cody, a three-legged Labrador Retriever, and tabby cat Sebastian. Teoti also serves as a Delta Society Instructor and Evaluator, teaching others how to volunteer with their pets and screening teams for the program.
Teoti is the founding member of Prescription Paws, a Delta Society® Pet Partner® affiliate group. She assists local and national dog rescue groups with behavioral and training consultations.

Marjie Alonso, CDBC, CPDT-KA, is a professional dog trainer and behavior consultant living in Somerville, MA, with her two dogs, two sons and very understanding mate. Marjie first started dog training in the late 1970s, eventually starting her own full time training and behavior consulting business, City Dog Training, LLC. Marjie serves as behavioral consultant for the New England Dog Training Club, the oldest AKC club in the US, and for several dog rescue groups and shelters, providing evaluations, rescue dog acclimation programs, one-on-one training sessions, training plans and behavior modification programs. Marjie is a member of the America Humane Association's Advisory Board for Companion Animal Behavior and Training.

She also works with local shelters and rescues providing behavior assessments and training advice, primarily with bully breeds. She earned her Master’s Degree from Brown University in Experimental Psychology, where she studied animal behavior, learning, and cognition.
She has nearly a decade of experience in all aspects of animal sheltering, from Kennel Attendant to Manager to Cruelty Investigator and Chairperson of State Vicious Dog Hearings for four years. Katenna is an Associate Certified Applied Animal Behaviorist, a Certified Animal Behavior Consultant, and Certified Pet Dog Trainer – Knowledge Assessed.
Katenna lives in Cumberland, Rhode Island with her husband, 2 adopted cats, and adopted pit bull.
